[nggallery id=77]The literature and art, created thanks to the guidance of leader Kim Jong Il in the era of Songun (military-first), is considered a treasure in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. In his lifetime, he paid deep attention to making the literature and art serve the Songun politics.
He authored a number of celebrated works to indicate the orientation and ways for the development of the literature and art in the Songun era, urging the Korean People's Army to take the lead in the creation of Songun culture.
In the period of the Arduous March, the forced march, he saw to it that the State Merited Chorus was organized, which played a big role in inspiring the servicepersons and civilians to follow the Songun politics.
Art performances full of the revolutionary soldier spirit were given at various levels, including art festivals of KPA servicepersons and performances by art groups of servicemen's families and itinerant art squads of industrial establishments.
The grand gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang", a winner of Kim Il Sung Prize, was created as a monumental masterpiece in the new century and art performance "The Blue Sky over My Country", given by the State Merited Chorus, Korean People's Army Song and Dance Ensemble, Mansudae Art Troupe, Phibada Opera Troupe and other leading troupes, deeply moved local people.
Feature films "Heritage", "Notes of a Woman Soldier" and "In Military Service" and light comedies "Promise", "Letter" and "Echo of Mountain" were produced to represent the Korean people's spirit of devotedly defending their leader and carrying out his instructions to the last.
The "October Concert", given by the Unhasu Orchestra and the Samjion Band of the Mansudae Art Troupe, was an example in music and art in the Songun era.
Performances of art squads of ministries and national institutions and national art festivals of workers and peasants gave a glimpse of the development of mass-based art in the country.
The National Symphony Orchestra created piano concerto "Ode to Comrade
Kim Jong Il", orchestral music "General on a Galloping White Horse" and orchestral music and chorus "The Snow Is Falling".

Kim Jong Un Enjoys Extravaganza 'Arirang'
[nggallery id=38]Supreme leader of the Workers' Party of Korea and people Marshal Kim Jong Un enjoyed mass gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang", winner of Kim Il Sung Prize, together with Pyongyangites on Sunday.
Among the audience were senior officials of the party, state and army Choe Ryong Hae, Hyon Yong Chol and others, chairperson of a friendly party and officials of the party, armed forces and power bodies, social organizations, ministries and national institutions, service personnel of the Korean People's Army and the Korean People's Internal Security Forces, officials in the fields of science, education, literature and arts, public health and media, labor innovators and working people in Pyongyang.
Present on invitation were overseas compatriots, the chief of the Pyongyang mission of the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front, diplomatic envoys of various countries and representatives of international organizations and members of the foreign military attaches corps here and their spouses and foreign guests.
The performance impressively made a grand epic representation of the past in which a definite end was put to the distress-torn history of the nation and the present of Songun Korea in which its dignity has been placed on the highest level thanks to the peerlessly great leaders and its eternal prosperity.
The extravaganza staged in vast three-dimensional space was a perfect combination of graceful and spectacular rhythms, dynamic gymnastics, refined artistic representation rich in national flavor, ever-changing background, gorgeous stage decor and peculiar lighting, etc. It clearly showcased the inexhaustible strength and skill of the Korean people and the rapid development of Juche arts.
At the end of the performance fireworks were displayed in succession, beautifully decorating the nocturnal sky of Pyongyang.
Kim Jong Un waved back to the enthusiastic cheers of the performers and audience and congratulated the former on their successful performance.
He expressed great satisfaction over the fact that "Arirang" was successfully re-represented in fresh style in reflection of the need of the developing era and the desire of the people. He extended thanks to the performers and creators.
The performance "Arirang" made its debut in 2002 on the occasion of the 90th birth anniversary of President
Kim Il Sung. The extravaganza staged more than 420 times over the last decade has been watched by at least 13 million service personnel, working people and youth and students and over 180 000 overseas compatriots and south Koreans and foreigners.

Delegates to Celebrations of Youth Day Enjoy Extravaganza 'Arirang'

Among the audience were service personnel, people from all walks of life, youth and students, overseas Koreans and foreign guests and the delegates. The performance mesmerized the audience from its very beginning as it made a grand epic representation of the past and present of the Korean nation and its eternal prosperity in the future.
The performers highly praised the undying exploits of Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il who built on this land the socialist power, independent in politics, self-supporting in economy and self-reliant in national defense, and demonstrated the national dignity and power before the whole world.
The performance deeply touched the audience for depicting the construction of the Huichon Power Station, the People's Theatre and other grand edifices and scenes that show the Workers' Party of Korea's love for people and future with new music, changes of formation and spectacular display and showing.
