Servicepersons Perform Heroic Feats in Projects of Renovating Parks and Face-lifting Rivers in Pyongyang

[nggallery id=61]The Korean Central News Agency released a detailed report on Nov. 17 about the heroic feats performed by servicepersons of the Korean People's Army in the projects of renovating parks and face-lifting rivers in Pyongyang.

According to it, servicepersons created a heroic epic of bringing about a new prosperity of Pyongyang through the drive of sprucing it up into a worldwide city and a center of Songun culture in the revolutionary soldier spirit and with matchless patriotic dedication for recent 40 odd days, true to the noble outlook of Supreme Commander Marshal Kim Jong Un on the country and the people.

They gave full play to the spirit of devotedly implementing the orders of the supreme commander in the project of improving the bank of Hapjang River.

They removed over 280 000 cubic meters of mud and repaired and washed the retaining walls of 18 000 square meters and rearranged the area covering more than 250 000 square meters and planted turf there, repaired and painted floodgates, bridges and intakes and completed all other tasks in just six days.

They fully displayed the militant spirit of the revolutionary army in the project of improving the bank of Pothong River.

They finished the project of face-lifting Pothong River including dredging and delivering of more than 800 000 cubic meters of sludge, laying of more than 32 000 square meters of retaining walls, arrangement of at least 90 000 square meters of the area and creating of woodland and greenery there in a matter of nine days.

During the project they repaired more than 70 resting places, 20 odd buildings and hundreds of meters of fences and planted trees and arranged the area qualitatively.

They repaired the areas around revolutionary monuments, produced thousands of sidewalk blocks and covered with them a park, promenade and spring in Ryonghung area and released fry in the river.

In the wake of finishing the dredging of Pothong River and the improvement of its bank they entered the drive of renovating parks in Pyongyang.

At the Puksae Park they arranged the area in a day and built the highest-level park on the vacant land in over 20 days.

16 000 cubic meters of earth were dug out, the ground level was raised, pavement blocks laid, turf and trees planted and the skate park and general sports ground built at the Sanghung Children's Park in a matter of some days.

At the Taedongmun Park servicepersons gave priority to the provision of building materials including sand mixed with gravel and cement and pushed forward the pavement of 300 odd square meters of concrete and coal-tar and the work for setting up dozens of sports and amusement facilities in a three-dimensional way and by the finish-one-by-one method.

Thanks to their devoted efforts five sports grounds and two auxiliary buildings were built, various kinds of benches set up and thousands of square meters of the area were greened at the Pothonggang Park.

The Thapje and Chongryu parks covering more than 15 000 square meters have been successfully renovated.

Hundreds of meters of fences were laid and 21 building tasks were carried out in ten days and 4 400 square meters of roadway blocks were laid and 16 sports grounds were paved with concrete and areas arranged in a week.

Servicepersons spruced up the Ryonmot Park which amounts to 30 percent of all the park project area in Pyongyang, and the Samma and West Pyongyang parks equipped with service facilities.

The Ryugyong Park in which 3 000 square meters of turf were planted in two days and the Kumransom Park are associated with the feats of the servicepersons determined to provide the people with better cultural and resting places.

They created woodland and greenery, built volleyball, basketball and badminton courts and skate parks and other dozens of sports grounds and set up more than one hundred of amusement and fitness facilities in 18 parks in Pyongyang in just 25 days.

Kim Jong Un Inspects Training Ground of Horse Riding Company of KPA

[nggallery id=60]Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and first chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, inspected the training ground of a horse riding company under KPA Unit 534. After seeing training facilities and horses which lined up for training, he watched service personnel's training of horse riding. Watching their brave training, he was satisfied with the fact that commanding officers and men are possessed of the admirable horsemanship.

He recollected with deep emotion the feats performed by leader Kim Jong Il in guiding the work at this training ground, saying that President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il were very good at riding horses. Kim Jong Un personally rode a horse to learn in detail about the course of riding. After riding on a galloping horse several times along a long main course, he said it is fairly good for riding. It is suitable place for horse riding, he added.

If this training ground which was visited by Kim Jong Il several times is rebuilt into a modern ground for horse riding, this will mean better preservation and consolidation of the precious legacy left by him,Kim Jong Unsaid. He proposed to name it Mirim Horse Riding Club as it is situated in Mirim area. He called for renovating horse-riding club at an early date and presenting it to the people.

Horse-riding is a very good exercise helpful for nurturing bravery, he said, adding it will help strengthen healthy spirit and physical body conducive to labor and defence. Regular horse-riding exercises from early years based on education will develop muscles and prevent back ache even after becoming adults, he said.

Horse-riding has caught worldwide interest, he said, stressing that Koreans have been fond of riding horses from the olden times and frequently held competitions on horseback, thus training their body and mind.

When renovated, the horse-riding club will attract lots of working people, youth and students, he said, adding that the horse-riding will help them train their body and mind and give them pride and joy.

Roller skating wind is raging after the creation of skate parks in different parts of Pyongyang, he said, noting that same thing will happen after the creation of horse-riding club.

To promote horse-riding, it is necessary to provide necessary conditions, he stressed.

It is necessary to arrange horse-riding club and, at the same time, create horse-riding school and teach not only horse-riding but horse breeding and taming, he said.

Breeding healthy horses is important for the well operation of horse-riding club, he said, calling for solving in time problems arising in breeding horses including the provision of fodder.

He also called for timely producing horse-riding gears including riding suit.

He stressed the need to successfully renovate the club as required by the era of Songun and provide the Koreans who are the best in the world with the highly civilized living conditions and environment.

He was accompanied by Choe Ryong Hae, Kim Kyong Hui, Jang Song Thaek, Hyon Yong Chol, Kim Ki Nam, Kim Kyok Sik, Kim Yang Gon, Kim Phyong Hae, Mun Kyong Dok, Pak Pong Ju, Han Kwang Sang, Kim Kyong Ok, Ri Ryong Ha, Hwang Pyong So, Kim Pyong Ho, Choe Pu Il, Son Chol Ju, Pak Jae Gyong, Pak Jong Chon, Kim Yong Chol, Jon Chang Bok and other senior officials of the party and the army.

Mother′s Day Celebrated in DPRK

Mother's Day (Nov. 16) is celebrated in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Put up in the streets of Pyongyang are posters in celebration of the holiday while large-sized electronic displays show programs for the mothers.

Children and young men are seen carrying bouquets for their mothers and teachers. Flower shops and stalls, bookstores and greeting card and souvenir shops are crowded with visitors.

Ri Son Mi, a Pyongyang citizen, saying:
"I am going to present this bouquet to my mother in celebration of Mother's Day."

Ri Hyon Il, a student of Kim Chaek University of Technology, saying:
"My mother is very meticulous, and she has shown deep care for my growth. In fact, sound development of family and society as well as the bright future of the nation are unthinkable without the mothers' role. So, I'd love to present this bouquet to my mother."

Wangjaesan Art Troupe Gives Performance to Mark Mother′s Day

[nggallery id=57]The Wangjaesan Art Troupe gave its music and dance performance at the People's Palace of Culture here Wednesday to mark the Mother's Day in the DPRK. It was watched by officials of ministries and national institutions and people in Pyongyang.

The performance began with song and dance "Paean to Women in Songun Era". Put on the stage were diverse numbers such as female solo and pangchang "A Lullaby", violin solo and female solo with pangchang "My Mother" and female solo "Happiness of Mother".

They also sang of mothers who creditably fulfilled their mission and duty, steadfastly covering the path of revolution and patriotism under the care of the peerlessly great men of Mt. Paektu.

Also staged were songs "Care of Party Represents the Home Where We Live" and "Kind-hearted Is Our Party" which reflect gratitude to the Workers' Party of Korea, which has led and treated the mothers with politics of respect and love for women.

The theatre was pervaded with ardent yearning for leaderKim Jong Il, who led mothers and all other people of the country to lead a true life and brought them great happiness when the troupe presented a guitar solo, female trio and pangchang "Boundless Is Yearning."

The audience was mesmerized by dance "Birds Fly over Forests of Our Country" and "Sunflower" and light music for violin "Higher and Faster", tap-dance "Days of Youth" and "Campfire" and other numbers.

The performance reached its climax when instrumental music and song "Glory to Our Great Party" was presented, winning acclaim of the audience.

The performance goes on.

Kim Jong Un Visits Newly Built Breast Cancer Research Centre at Pyongyang Maternity Hospital

[nggallery id=56]Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, first chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and supreme commander of the Korean people's army, visited the newly built Breast Cancer Research Centre at the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital.

He went round various places of the centre such as vessel endoscope room, lacteal gland photographing room, ultrasonic wave examination room, electrocardiography room, sick-rooms, etc. to learn in detail about its construction, performance and specifications of medical equipment and its management and operation.

He entered its lobby and said he felt as if he were in a palace.

He was satisfied to hear officials of the hospital say they learnt a lot from the work style of the soldier-builders.

He was pleased to hear from officials in the field concerned say that the hospital could provide medical service to women not only of Pyongyang City but also all other parts of the country through tele-healthcare system.

He underscored the need to take good care of equipment, looking at cutting-edge equipment such as multi-purpose Roentgen, CT, etc. one by one.

He said it was important to prevent mastopathy and breast cancer, find out and treat them at an early stage through regular examination of women now that the hospital has such cutting-edge equipment.

After coming up to the balcony of the first floor, he recollected that leaderKim Jong Ilgave an earnest instruction on building a modern breast cancer research centre at the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital in November last year, the last days of his life, and personally examined its blueprint. He told officials of the center to successfully manage and operate it associated with the profound loving care ofKim Jong Il.

When he dropped in at a sick-room, he asked the officials if the patients would not feel any inconvenience in their living. He showed such deep care as making sure that sick rooms were provided with liquid crystal TV sets and refrigerators.

While going round the general operation room, he said it was most important to fully ensure germ-free environment. At an intensive-care room, he urged doctors on duty to have a real time watch on life index of the patients.

He, at the same time, looked at varieties of white gowns and slippers provided to the doctors, nurses and patients by the party.

He extended thanks to the soldier-builders who took part in the construction of the centre, expressing great satisfaction over its construction. He added that it looked impeccable in any aspect and women would be pleased to visit it.

He told the officials of the hospital to creditably fulfill their mission and duty as faithful servants of the people, always bearing in mind the emotion-charged autograph sent byKim Jong Ilto it on February 3, 1993, hoping them to serve the people.

Accompanying him were Jang Song Thaek, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK and vice-chairman of the National Defence Commission, Kim Ki Nam and Choe Thae Bok, members of the Political Bureau and secretaries of the C.C., the WPK, Kim Yang Gon, alternate member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the C.C., the WPK, and Kim Pyong Ho and Pak Chun Hong, vice department directors of the C.C., the WPK.

Kim Jong Un Sends Chestnuts to Students of Kumsong School

[nggallery id=55]The dear respected Kim Jong Un sent a lot of chestnuts to Kumsong School students in Pyongyang on Nov. 13. The chestnuts are associated with his fatherly affection for the rising generation. The great Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il made sure that the school was built, and good educational conditions and environment were provided.

They saw that computers, musical instruments, teaching tools, vehicles, etc. were sent to the school. Their number reaches 23 000 plus. The students and teachers of the school were so excited that they made bows of thanks to Kim Jong Un.

New Welfare Service Facilities Inaugurated in Pyongyang

[nggallery id=52]There sprang up on the picturesque bank of the Taedong River in Pyongyang the Ryugyong Health Complex, the People's Open-air Ice Rink and the Skate Park.

The magnificent edifices having a peculiar architecture in conformity with the appearance of the capital city are the fruition of the love for the people.

The Ryugyong Health Complex with a total floor space of 18 379 square meters has modern facilities for bathing, hairdressing, beauty and massage treatment and fitness exercises.

The complex can accommodate at least 7 200 persons a day.

The People's Open-air Ice Rink has a total floor space of 6 469 square meters while the Skate Park has a total floor space of more than 1 3300 square meters. They provide all conditions for skating and roller-skating all year round.

An inaugural ceremony took place on Friday.

Attending it were Choe Yong Rim, Kim Ki Nam, Choe Thae Bok, Mun Kyong Dok, Ro Tu Chol and officials of the armed forces, ministries and national institutions and of the fields concerned and soldier- builders, employees of the above-said facilities and other Pyongyangites and youth and students.

Premier Choe Yong Rim, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, in his inaugural address said that the facilities are a product of the wise leadership and devoted efforts of leaderKim Jong Iland the dear respected MarshalKim Jong Unand that they were built by service personnel and people through their patriotic efforts to devotedly carry out the plans and intentions of the party and the leader.

He called upon all the officials and employees to take good care of the service facilities and equipment and minutely organize their service and operation in the spirit of rendering devoted service to the people and thus ensure that the WPK's loving care reaches all of them.

At the end of the ceremony, the participants went round the facilities.

Kim Jong Un Watches Shooting Contest and Volleyball Match

[nggallery id=51]The dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un, together with his wife Ri Sol Ju, watched a shooting contest among players of the April 25 National Defense Sports Team and a women's volleyball match between the Pongae Team and the Pyongyang Team.

Kim Jong Un was greeted by Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Ri Jong Mu and officials of the sports team.

After appreciating the successful construction of an outdoor shooting range,Kim Jong Unwatched the shooting contest.

He expressed expectation that the April 25 National Defense Sports Team would produce more ace shooters in the days ahead to register better successes at national and international matches.

Then Kim Jong Unwatched a women's volleyball match between the Pongae Team and the Pyongyang Team at a newly built gymnasium.

After looking round the gymnasium together with the officials accompanying him, he watched the match that ended with victory of the Pongae Team.

Kim Jong Unwas satisfied with a good match played by them.

Then he had a photo taken with the players of the two teams.

He said to turn the country into a sports power by developing the sports is an important work for increasing the national power in every way and demonstrating the indomitable spirit and dignity of Songun Korea.

We spare nothing for the sportspersons, he said, taking benevolent measures for developing the sports.

Kim Jong Un Sends Large Chestnuts to Changgwang, Kyongsang Kindergartens

Large chestnuts whose amount was enough for even distribution among children of the kindergartens reflected deep loving care that can be shown only by parents who take care of the future of the country.

They were conveyed to the kindergartens on Wednesday.

Children, beside themselves with joy, broke into cheers and kindergarten teachers and parents extended thanks to the Marshal in excitement.
