Pyongyang Ophthalmic Hospital

Pyongyang Ophthalmic Hospital, donated by the International Association of Lions Clubs, was inaugurated in June Juche 94 (2005). It is in Thongil Street of Pyongyang, with the main building—one storey under and three storeys above the ground—and several auxiliary buildings.

It is fully provided with material and technological foundations for treating and studying eye diseases, and staffed with competent personnel, most of whom completed the postgraduate courses at the then Pyongyang University of Medicine and have now had plenty of ability and experience.

The hospital has recently established a base of producing artificial crystalline lenses.

It is making strenuous efforts to keep up with the developing trend of ophthalmology by setting up specialized sections and becoming well versed in advanced technologies and skills.

To this end it frequently holds study sessions for technical knowledge, medical consultations and meetings for sharing experience, so as to solve clinical and technological bottlenecks by the collective efforts.

The ophthalmic research room has developed a new kind of lenses for iris defects, which improved the treatment of myopic patients.

The cataract section cured many patients by treating them with newly-acquired surgical manuals.

Doctors from the vitreous and retinal treatment section, including its chief Kim Man Sok and doctor Kim Kyong Ae, have mastery of microsurgical procedures and can perform operations to correct retinal detachment, the opacity of and hemorrhage in the vitreous body, and other related diseases on a high level.

The laser treatment section is also gaining success in treating eye diseases with argon and YAG laser, while the pediatric section can perform surgery on congenital cataracts and special squint for babies less than one month old.

Its medical workers are also conducting treatment at local hospitals.

The hospital is thus famous among the people for excellent skills of the doctors in medical practice and their deep sincerity devoted to the patients.

Vishwanath Visits Breast Tumour Institute

Vishwanath, director-general of the International Institute of the Juche Idea who doubles as secretary general of the International Kim Il Sung Prize Council and the International Kim Jong Il Prize Council, visited the Breast Tumour Institute of the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital. Going around the institute fully furnished with modern medical apparatuses, he was impressed to know about enormous efforts made by leader Kim Jong Il for the good health of women and the loving care shown by the dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un for them.

Kim Jong Un Visits Newly Built Breast Cancer Research Centre at Pyongyang Maternity Hospital

[nggallery id=56]Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, first chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and supreme commander of the Korean people's army, visited the newly built Breast Cancer Research Centre at the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital.

He went round various places of the centre such as vessel endoscope room, lacteal gland photographing room, ultrasonic wave examination room, electrocardiography room, sick-rooms, etc. to learn in detail about its construction, performance and specifications of medical equipment and its management and operation.

He entered its lobby and said he felt as if he were in a palace.

He was satisfied to hear officials of the hospital say they learnt a lot from the work style of the soldier-builders.

He was pleased to hear from officials in the field concerned say that the hospital could provide medical service to women not only of Pyongyang City but also all other parts of the country through tele-healthcare system.

He underscored the need to take good care of equipment, looking at cutting-edge equipment such as multi-purpose Roentgen, CT, etc. one by one.

He said it was important to prevent mastopathy and breast cancer, find out and treat them at an early stage through regular examination of women now that the hospital has such cutting-edge equipment.

After coming up to the balcony of the first floor, he recollected that leaderKim Jong Ilgave an earnest instruction on building a modern breast cancer research centre at the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital in November last year, the last days of his life, and personally examined its blueprint. He told officials of the center to successfully manage and operate it associated with the profound loving care ofKim Jong Il.

When he dropped in at a sick-room, he asked the officials if the patients would not feel any inconvenience in their living. He showed such deep care as making sure that sick rooms were provided with liquid crystal TV sets and refrigerators.

While going round the general operation room, he said it was most important to fully ensure germ-free environment. At an intensive-care room, he urged doctors on duty to have a real time watch on life index of the patients.

He, at the same time, looked at varieties of white gowns and slippers provided to the doctors, nurses and patients by the party.

He extended thanks to the soldier-builders who took part in the construction of the centre, expressing great satisfaction over its construction. He added that it looked impeccable in any aspect and women would be pleased to visit it.

He told the officials of the hospital to creditably fulfill their mission and duty as faithful servants of the people, always bearing in mind the emotion-charged autograph sent byKim Jong Ilto it on February 3, 1993, hoping them to serve the people.

Accompanying him were Jang Song Thaek, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK and vice-chairman of the National Defence Commission, Kim Ki Nam and Choe Thae Bok, members of the Political Bureau and secretaries of the C.C., the WPK, Kim Yang Gon, alternate member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the C.C., the WPK, and Kim Pyong Ho and Pak Chun Hong, vice department directors of the C.C., the WPK.

Kim Jong Un Gives Field Guidance to Physical Exercise Center in Thongil Street

[nggallery id=33]Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and first chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, together with his wife Ri Sol Ju, gave field guidance to the Physical Exercise Center in Thongil Street nearing its completion.

The Physical Exercise Center in Thongil Street is a modern one built according to the direct initiative and plan of Kim Jong Un who is always deeply concerned for the promotion of people's health and living standard.

The center having a total floor space of13 749 square metres consists of a physical exercise room for health, underwater supersonic wave room, recovery room, table-tennis room, soft drink shop, etc.

It is well equipped with 138 sporting apparatuses of 61 kinds including apparatuses for running, cycling and paddling exercises and modern medical facilities.

Going round various places of the center,Kim Jong Unacquainted himself in detail with the apparatuses and their distribution and use project.

Making the rounds of the physical exercise rooms for health on the ground and first floors, he learned in detail about the features of apparatuses.

Seeing various kinds of physical exercise apparatuses one by one, he said it is important to rationally distribute the apparatuses as befitting the center for the people.

At the rooms, he said that in order to help working people to train their physical bodies by use of various sporting apparatuses, and receive medical treatment it is necessary to cooperate with experts to seek and positively apply scientific methods of using apparatuses suited to their age and physical characteristics.

At the recovery room he said when servants acquire expertise knowledge including physical treatment method, they can positively contribute to the promotion of people's health and medical treatment.

At the physical exercise room for health on the second floor, he noted that it was arranged better than the rooms on the ground and first floors.

Apparatuses for running and cycling exercises are good, he said, noting that if not only school youth and children but office workers who work in rooms all day long take exercises and receive medical treatment at the center, they can devote themselves to the revolutionary work in good health.

Going round the underwater supersonic wave room furnished with modern supersonic wave equipment to stimulate each region of body and equipment for wet and dry steam bath and shower, he underlined to need provide service well so that working people may find the center effective for physical exercises and medical treatment.

It is the steadfast determination and will of the Workers' Party of Korea to enable the best people in the world to fully enjoy wealth and prosperity under socialism, he said, calling for operating the center well so that the happy laughter of the people may be heard from the center.
